Had great time at the Transcending Boundaries Conference in Worcester MA. this weekend. I am now on the 1st of two buses home - I switch buses in Hartford CT.

The staff of TBC did a wonder job! They all need to pat themselves on the back! Oh, the first bus I am on is one of the newer Peter Pan buses and I have WiFi!

Thank you Veterans! [Nov. 11th, 2009|12:00 am]

2009 Veteran's Day Poster

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Great War ends.
At 5 a.m. that morning, Germany, bereft of manpower and supplies and faced with imminent invasion, signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car outside Compiegne, France.

Remember to thank a Veteran today!

Kinky is NOT a Diagnosis! [Oct. 16th, 2009|04:24 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Action Alert from National Coalition for Sexual Freedom

Help make history by signing the DSM Revision Petition now! The diagnoses in the DSM-IV-TR still subject people who practice BDSM, fetishes and cross-dressing to bias, discrimination and social sanctions without any scientific basis.

We need 3,000 signatures, but we only have 2,200 now. If you don't speak up and call on the American Psychiatric Association to adhere to empirical research when revising the diagnoses in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V), then the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Work Group won't make a meaningful change.

To sign, go Here!

You can make your signature anonymous on this secure petition site so it doesn't appear on the Internet or when the petition is delivered to the APA.

Petition:

"We, the undersigned, support the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) own goal of making its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) a scientific document, based on empirical research and devoid of cultural bias. A diagnosis of a mental disorder can have a severe adverse impact on employment opportunities, child custody determinations, an individual's well-being, and other areas of functioning. Therefore we urge the APA to remove all diagnoses that are not based upon peer-reviewed, empirical research, demonstrating distress or dysfunction, from the DSM. The APA specifically should not promote current social norms or values as a basis for clinical judgments."

To find out more about the DSM and the Paraphilias section, read the NCSF & ITCR: The Foundation for NCSF's "White Paper on the DSM Revision."

For more information, email Susan Wright.

Help spread the word - please distribute this call for signatures!

March and Rally Against Hate Crime in College Point [Oct. 15th, 2009|04:13 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Passing this information on for my Friend Danny Dromm
--------------------------------------
Dear Friend,

PLEASE SPREAD WIDELY! We need your help.

Thanks, Danny Dromm

In response to the violent beating of openly gay 49-year old Jack Price by two men outside of a convenience store in the College Point neighborhood of Queens early Friday, October 9th, a diverse coalition of Queens residents, activists, and community organizations are hosting a march and rally on Saturday, October 17th, in and with the community of College Point to protest homophobia and to celebrate diversity. We are also hosting an educational campaign geared towards the youth of College Point on Friday, October 16th; we believe that violence against LGBT people is rooted in ignorance and fear, threatens the safety of all people, and must be addressed by all members of all communities.

Please join us for one of these two important events:

Education Outreach at Flushing High School in Flushing, Queens on Friday, Oct. 16th, 3pm
We'll be distributing information about LGBT issues and speaking to students.
Directions: Take the 7 train to Main Street and walk up to Northern Blvd.; cross the street; the school is a huge brick building. Meet us at the front gate.
By bus: Take the Q14, Q16, Q17 or Q44 to 35th Avenue. School is on the corner.
Take the Q25/34, Q65, Q67 to Main Street. Walk along Main Street toward Northern Boulevard.

March and Rally in College Point on Saturday, October 17th, step off at 2pm.
We'll be marching down College Point Boulevard from 20th Avenue until 14th Avenue
and then holding a rally/speakout at nearby Popenhusen playground.
Directions: Take the 7 train to Main Street and then the Q65 bus from Roosevelt and Main Street to 20th Ave.
Please bring signs without wooden sticks, banners, friends, and your best self.

These events are endorsed by the Price family, Generation Q/the Queens Community House, the Queens Lesbian and Gay Pride Committee, the office of Speaker Christine Quinn, the Jewish Center of Jackson Heights, St. Pat's for All Parade, Astorians United Against Hate Crimes, Gay Peruvians, the Long Island City Alliance, the Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens, Las Buenas Amigas, Out Astoria, Integrity NYC, Western Queens for Marriage Equality, the Anti Violence Project, the International Socialist Organization, Carmen's Place, the New York Civil Liberties Union, Project Reach, Queens Pride House, Make the Road NY

For more information about these events, or to join the long-term effort to educate people about diversity and LGBT lives, please contact:
