| Happy Nurse's Week |
[May. 6th, 2012|03:16 pm] |
Today 6th is Nurse's Day and the start of National Nurses Week that ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday.
I want to again thank all the Nurse's, CNA, HHA, and everyone else at Trump Pavilion of Jamaica Hospital for the care that that gave my Brenda while she was there in 2005 and for the comfort you gave me after her passing.
I also want to wish all the Nurse's, CNA, HHA, etc. out there that take care of someone. I do know how it can be a hard job.
Finally a special thank you to all the Nurse's, CNA, HHA at LIJ that took care of me in June of 2009 when I was there getting stents put into my heart. |

We're all tired of this nonsense. We're exhausted with the Tiny White Men That Other White Men Seem To Insist Need To Live In Our Ladyparts, and we're tired of being treated like cattle and chattel just because we're capable of conceiving life, but WE CANNOT IGNORE SHIT LIKE THIS! We must speak up, in our thousands, and we must speak up EVERY DAMN TIME! We must roar and shake the bars because every time even one of these appalling little incremental atrocities passes without uproar, then the Tiny White Men use it as a platform from which to to launch another, only slightly more atrocious attack.
Don't get tired, get mad. Talk about it. Yell about it. SCREAM about it. Deny nay-sayers sex over it. Do. Not. Be. Worn. Down. Because once the chains go on, it takes a lot of blood to get them off again.
This signal needs to be louder than all the 'stop internet limitations' signals. This Conservative Agenda includes the enslavement of better than half the human race. It really, really is more important.
Act like it.

| Tell the US Census that we all count! |
[Jan. 9th, 2012|05:16 pm] |
During the 2010 Census, LGBT people and straight allies sent in over 140,000 big pink stickers telling the Census Bureau that “We All Count.” The QTC campaign is still going strong, so join me in telling the federal government that it is past time to count everyone in our community! And if you sign the petition, the Task Force will send you a free 'Count Me In' sticker.
We are advocating for the Census in future years — and for the hundreds of smaller, yearly surveys the federal government conducts — to include question(s) identifying LGBT people. When we go to bat for things like funding LGBT health services or hate crime prevention, we can use the data to say, "Look, there are people who need this in your district."
The good news is that you and I can do something about it. It's time to Queer the Census! Join me and sign the pledge from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force urging the Census Bureau to make sure everyone is counted.
Visit http://www.queerthecensus.org to take action now and get your free 'Count Me In' sticker.
Thanks for your help, |

Memorial Service for badgerthorazine |
[Dec. 27th, 2011|06:08 pm] |
Reporting from persis
Pat Washburn, Badger/ badgerthorazine's sister, has been awesome and scheduled a memorial service.
Please forward as appropriate: Memorial service for Alice E. Washburn will be Friday, Jan. 13, at 3 p.m. at the MIT Chapel in Cambridge, with reception to follow at the nearby Student Center.
There will also be a memorial filk at Arisia, sometime later that weekend, at the Westin Waterfront Hotel, which will also include remembering Chris Croughton, aka Keris, a British filker who was in a fatal car crash in early November. Details on that will be forthcoming. (And also one at Boskone, and I expect Lunacon, and a reading or some other remembrance at Readercon; all these details still need to be figured out.) |

| Please help a friend's foster-sister in reaching her fundraising goal to fight Alzheimer’s disease |
[Sep. 27th, 2011|12:47 am] |
Please help me help a friends foster-sister's mom in her battle with Alzheimers.
Please go to the link below before October 8 and help her reach (and pass) her fundraising goal!
Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States today. It’s time to reclaim the future - a future free from this disease. Will help her?
She is participating in the 2011 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease. Her mom, Rachel, is fighting valiantly against this brain-ravaging dis-ease. By joining her team, you can help end this epidemic and show your support for the more than 5 million Americans living with the disease.
The Alzheimer's Association is the largest voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research, and the funds we raise will go directly toward supporting their efforts.
The end of Alzheimer’s starts with you!
Follow This Link to visit her personal web page and her in her efforts to support Alzheimer's Association Georgia Chapter.

| Please sign this petition.... |
[Sep. 14th, 2011|04:50 pm] |
[Note it's now only 7 days]
Via Change.org
Stop the execution of Troy Davis, an innocent man in Georgia. Sign his sister’s petition.
Dear Friends,
Troy Davis has 10 days to live before he is executed by the State of Georgia. But 7 witnesses say Troy is innocent , and that another man committed the crime for which he will be killed. With just days left to save Troy’s life, his sister Kim Davis started a petition on Change.org asking the Georgia Parole Board to stop his execution. Please add your name to Kim’s petition now and save her brother’s life.
Evidence presented at Troy’s trial was considered shaky at the time. Since then, seven witnesses have recanted their testimony , many saying they were pressured by police into false testimony.
There’s no physical evidence Troy committed the crime. And, according to Amnesty International, nine people have signed affidavits implicating another man.
Georgia’s Board of Parole and Pardons has said there should be "no doubt" about a person’s guilt before he is executed. You can tell the Board there’s simply too much doubt about Troy’s guilt to kill him next week.
Please click here to add your name to Kim Davis' petition asking the Georgia Parole Board to stop her brother’s execution, then forward this email to everyone you know:
http://www.change.org/petitions/chairman-state-of-georgia-board-of-pardons-and-paroles-grant-clemency-to-my-brother-troy-davis
Thanks for being a change-maker,
- Michael and the Change.org team
P.S. Kim has a goal of reaching 20,000 signatures by Tuesday. Once you sign, will you forward this email widely to help her reach that goal? |
