Is that how long you get a bye for before you can serve again?

Bummer....I served on a jury last summer and would like to do it again sometime.

6 years, that's what they told us. I believe that's the new rule in NYS but I guess you can contact the County Clerk where you live and check to see if that's the rule for your County as well or if you can serve sooner.

Boy, if you want to serve so soon you must REALLY be into pain :-)

Well, consider that the case that I sat on was in a small town in upstate, the trial was over in about a day (started around 10 am was over and done with by 7pm) the jury consisted of 6 not 12 people and there wasn't a whole lot of legal maneuvering by either side.

I suppose if it was somewhere else where everyone wanted to stretch it out as long as possible, I'd have a different opinion...one that many people seem to have about serving on juries. For me it was interesting, and in many ways showed me how and where the justice system needs to be overhauled but don't really have a good idea of how to adjust or fix it for the better.

SIX years? Must be nice to live in so populous a place. In DC, i got called every 2nd 14 Feb like clockwork. I got called to my local circuit court last March, and can be called again in 3 years. (We only have three levels of courts here in VA: circuit, appeals, and supreme.)

Here's hoping i don't get called for Federal court - my mother spent 9 months on grand jury duty there a few years back - had to go in at least once a week the whole time.
